Britain in Bloom is the largest horticultural campaign in the United kingdom with the year round aim of making Britain more beautiful. It is an incredible thing to be able to bring people together through gardening and working to make their shared community better. That is exactly what Civic Pride Rossendale do on a daily basis all throughout the area of Rawtenstall! Civic Pride Rossendale is an amazing voluntary run organisation that works on making Rossendale a cleaner, greener place to live and work.
We are excited for Holme Manor to be teaming up with Civic Pride to have the residents judging a colouring competition organised by the publicity officer for Civic Pride, Janet Allcock Pride to help boost colour in the town ahead of the judging for Britain in Bloom.
So how does the judging work?
With 140 entries for three separate age categories from both schools and individuals, each category will have three winning entries. There will also be 12 ‘well dones’ for other outstanding entries and these alongside the winning entries will be displayed in the window of ‘Just Beautiful Kitchens’ on Bury Road, Rawtenstall and other entries will be displayed all around the town so that everyone can see the amazing designs created!
Civic Pride is really working to put Rawtenstall on the map for all of its beauty! Ryan Godwin said “All the volunteers at Civic Pride have been busy working so hard ahead of the judges’ visit and Rawtenstall is looking so impressive. It is a privilege to be able to play our part and be able to work in partnership”.
Ryan Godwin has also grown at least 100 Geraniums and Teasel plants that have been collected by Sue Shuttleworth, The Chair of Civic Pride, and Janet which will be used to add even more colour into Sparrow Park pending the Britain in Bloom Visit.
Sue said: “We are very grateful to Ryan and the residents of Holme Manor for judging the colouring competition and also for the donation of plants, which we will be using for Sparrow Park.
“We received plants from a Welcome Back grant and one of the beds at Sparrow Park is being planted by ‘St James The Less School’ and another by ‘Veterans In Communities’. There is such a lot going on.”
