Over the Christmas period, we are business as usual and care will continue as usual for all of our clients over the holiday season. Our offices are also open as usual for those who may need to reach us, we understand the importance of being there for our service users and their families over Christmas.

Everyone should have company at Christmas

It is estimated that within the UK approximately one million older people feel the effects of loneliness more at Christmas than any other time of the year. For many older people, Christmas can be a day that feels like any other time of the year which makes our carer visits that much more important.

At Lifestyle, we want to make sure that you or your loved ones have someone to care for them or that they have someone to talk to over the Christmas period. Whether a business as usual visit is what you need or simply just want a quick pop in social visit, our carers are on hand to help you through and keep you company this Christmas.

Being a carer over Christmas

Being a carer over Christmas can be a demanding job. Every year thousands of carers and social workers are needed over the Christmas period to help those who are more vulnerable during the festive season. This role can be crucial to so many people over this time and whilst it can be demanding it is also very rewarding. Helping people to live a normal life over Christmas is what it is all about.

The usual Christmas stresses, combined with looking after other people at Christmas can mean that there is a lot of pressure on carers and often feel like you don’t get a break. And so we want to give some tips on how to cope over Christmas.

Take time for yourself

When life gets busy, it’s important to make sure you set aside some time for yourself amongst the madness to rest where you can. It can be a simple as taking a moment out of your day to have a cup of tea, finding time to rest can really help you to de-stress.

Plan in advance

Every year the Christmas season creeps up on all of us and before you know it we have a list of things to do that is piling up. Going into the holiday season prepared and ready can help take stress off in the moment

Connect with other carers

Having a support network is so important in times of stress and having a support network that fully understands the stresses you are under can be invaluable. Connecting with your colleagues and other carers and talking through things that may be causing you stress can be a lifesaver.

Ask for help and support

When encountering problems that you feel you cannot handle on your own, make sure to ask for help and support. We at Lifestyle want to make sure we have a network of people ready to help our team members. Whether this be as simple as talking through the pressures of Christmas in your personal life, or requiring help with problems encountered on shift. Do not be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

As Homecare workers, it is important to remember to look after yourself. We understand that being a care worker can become overwhelming and tiring.
